When you’re buying a home, there are a lot of things to worry about. You have to make sure that the mortgage payments fit into your budget, that the neighborhood is in a good location, and that you’re getting a good deal on the house.

The couple’s only child had graduated college and gotten her first job, and they wanted to help by buying her a house. They found the perfect house, but were warned by their realtor to waive the inspection: “The market is extremely competitive; if you inspect the home, you will lose the deal.” They took the advice and bypassed the home inspection, only to run into a myriad of issues. The sidewalks needed to be torn up, there were multiple water intrusions, mold grew throughout the house, and there were asbestos tiles under the flooring. One disaster after another added up to a lofty sum of money to get everything fixed.

It’s worth mentioning that the realtor didn’t necessarily provide incorrect or ill-advised counsel. However, it is essential that you weigh all your options. You could miss a chance if you don’t act fast. However, if you move too hastily, you might pay too much money for something that is not worth it.
